As a custodian I can confirm that someone who is genuinely sorry for stepping on my freshly cleaned and polished floor makes me happier than someone who just bull right through.

I make a habit of saying “be careful” to the ones who say sorry or ask for permission to cross the floor, but say nothing to the ones who don’t or just Bull through. There are wet floor signs upLove the people who do a big jump or two!! Like the effort! it always makes me real happy. for Some coworkers would do this when I'd just cleaned a room when I worked in housekeeping at a nursing home. Didn't understand it before, but afterwards I got it. It's nice when they take extra care to try and not make it dirty again; but whenever they'd apologize for it I'd tell them "Hey, it's okay, the floor is there for a reason" and that seemed to help them not feel as bad about it. I'm just going my job, they're doing theirs.them.
