My Dearest Chiara,

I find myself at a loss for words, a feeling as unfamiliar to me as the Seine River without its waters. How can I explain the weight of the ring, both literal and symbolic, that has slipped through my fingers and into the heart of Paris?

Yesterday, as I stood on that boat, our Italy’s colors held high, the world a shimmering stage, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and responsibility. Yet, in that moment of glory, a symbol of our love, our commitment, our life together, vanished.

I know no apology can replace what I’ve lost, and more importantly, what I’ve put you through. The ring was more than just a piece of gold; it was a promise, a testament to our love story. To see it slip away, to feel the cold emptiness on my finger, was a pang of loss I never imagined.

I blame myself, of course. The weight loss, the excitement, the adrenaline – a perfect storm of carelessness. But more than that, I blame fate for playing such a cruel joke. How could such a beautiful day, a day that should be etched in gold in our memories, be marred by such a silly mistake?

I promise to make it up to you, Chiara. We will find a way to replace that ring, to reaffirm our vows, to celebrate our love in a way that is even more extraordinary. I will climb the highest bar for you, not just in the stadium, but in our life together.

Your understanding, your grace, your love – they are the gold medal I cherish most. I am so incredibly lucky to have you by my side.

With a heart heavy with regret and a spirit determined to redeem myself,

Your Gianmarco
