What do you think is the worst album cover?
I agree on Fearless platinum, OG Fearless looks good with the white background, but the black background makes the platinum cover look much worse.
Also, I don't think it's necessary the worst, but the Lover cover is such a missed opportunity! The concept was cool, the whole photoshoot was gorgeous, and yet they somehow chose the worst possible picture for the cover. er hair looks so bad the way they photoshopped it, which is such a shame because her ringlets were so cute on the OG cover. Like I’m pretty sure even an iPhone where you can copy just a person from a photo would do a better job than whoever cooked up that coverHair is always a pain to deal with in Photoshop, you’re right and the tools have come a lonnngggg way since 2009! Add in the fact that the hair is blurry, basically making it impossible to find a hard edge in order to make a clean cut out!Blonde hair is (and definitely was back then) hardest to get a clean key of on green screen! This is because the hair can absorb/reflect some of the green cast, especially if things aren’t lit properly. There’s also more transparency and less contrast with the background. We tend to use green screens because green is a color we don’t naturally find in human skin, but there are still use cases where another color might be bestBack in the day I used a tiny little brush in photoshop to paint flyaways back in after I masked out the background. I’m trying to remember when I started using layer masks—the original techniques were destructive, and we didn’t have YouTube tutorials to learn from.
I still use the painting trick sometimes but the AI selection tools have gotten way betterAgreed with that the Fearless Platinum cover is the worst from a technical standpoint.
Aside from that, while I don’t think it’s the worst from a technical/photography standpoint, the cover for Red TV doesn’t do the album justice. I get wanting to lean into the autumn aesthetic for ATW, but it feels like a reject from a photoshoot for the folkmore albums rather than a reimagining of what Red was.She keeps picking covers that look unprepared rather than natural or candid. The Lover cover that looks like it was taken when she was trying to step over something on the ground. The Speak Now TV cover with that one frizzy inside out curl right in front. The Midnights cover where we're looking up her nose. Girl 😭 She knew what she was doing with TTPD though!
